Independent Project Reflection

Pretty much anything space related are an interesting subject to me, the idea of living on another planet is an exciting prospect to research and think about. That's the reason i decided to do Proxima Centauri as my research project, I found that it existed while looking through news articles for a project idea, before that i did not know much about exoplanets or how we find and study them.
This year's presentation similar to a TED Talk was perfect for this subject, giving a way to present it in an informative way.

As I said earlier space related stuff is extremely interesting to me. Until I started researching this i did not know much about exoplanets or the study of them. This entire project has been a great opportunity/motivator for me learn all about our fascination in other planets and how we study them.

The most challenging part of this project was getting the facts straight, after the discovery of  Proxima B was announced there were hundreds of posts and articles regarding it. As with most subjects that attract massive amounts of attention some of the details were different depending on who wrote the article. Sorting through and comparing all of this information was the hardest and the most complicated part of the project.

Doing this project has helped me learn how to research things in-depth a little better to find as much genuine information as possible from various posts and articles. Being able to find accurate information is an extremely useful skill for pretty much anything, especially if you need genuine facts for a project or a paper.

If i had to improve something about the project it would be the way i presented it, I'm the first to admit i am awful at explaining pretty much anything and the fact that I didn't write a script really did not help. If I had to do it again I would; No.1 Be clearer about certain points of interest, No.2 Have an actual script so that i would be sure to get all the information across without confusion.

2016-2017 1st Blog Post

I'm really happy to be back in the GOAL class this year, last year turned out to be much  more fun than I expected and I learned a lot from it. My academic goal for this year is to continue to learn and progress in all subjects in which i am interested. I really like studying Science and Photography and I'm going to start studying Art and graphic design. My behavioral goal is to to be more helpful and use my time wisely so that i don't get into trouble. My improvement goal is that I want to learn how to use photoshop and other programs effectively for graphic design. I would also like to read more books this year, since I didn't read many over the summer. These points are important to me because  I want to keep getting high marks on tests and learn new things.

Hannibal Missouri

We went to Hannibal as a part of our Mark Twain unit to learn more about him, while there we visited various locations including; The Mark Twain Museum, The Mark Twain Caves and Mark twains house. Our unit was based around researching and understanding Mark Twains life and his books, therefore going to his home town gave us a much greater understanding of both. In our unit Mrs. Edlin had us open a box with five various locks on it using vague clues about his life, maps quote etc. Overall the unit was very educational and we learned a lot about how he lived and wrote his books.

In my oppinion the most educational part of the trip was opening the box, the vague clues made us research interesting and strange things about him. Doing this gave a special insight into some things that we never would've thought to look at otherwise.

One of my favourite parts of the trip was the caves, partly because of the caves formation and size and partly knowing and seeing where mark twain got some of his inspiration. Even though his works are fiction, he still used renamed people and actual places and seeing where he got one of the most iconic places from The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer, was extremely interesting and enjoyable.

There really is nothing that could be vastly improved on the trip; its already great. The only thing I can really think of that would've been fun is a riverboat ride to see what Mark Twain did as a young man, but that is not neccessary and overall the trip was great.

Our research prepared us for the trip in many ways, we knew about the various places, we knew a large amount about his life and overall researching it before hand made the trip a lot more interesting than is would've been if we hadnt done any research.

Comics, Cartoons, & Graphic Novels Final Project.

Page 1
This project represents a large amount of what i've learned during this unit.  Even though its just a page of characters, not a full comic it still contains a lot of different things from the unit. For example the style, simple shapes make great characters and objects in a comic. Advanced shapes are also great, but can be hard unless your skilled at drawing and/or sketching. Also the idea that no drawing is "Good" or "Bad". "Good" and "Bad" are relative to what you like, not what the drawing is. For instance a page of scribbles looks "good" for some people and "bad" for others. Comics are not meant to be perfect, they are ment to be funny, or convey meaning. No comic or drawing is "perfect", but they all are funny or have a meaning. Any level of story telling is fine for making comics, a comic with 3 words can still have a good story. So i think that no matter how much skill anyone has at drawing or story telling, they can still make good comics and drawings.
